Product Overview

Designed for efficient wood waste processing, it is suitable for farms, orchards, woodlands, and landscaping. Drawing power from the tractor's PTO shaft, the unit easily processes wood (e.g., branches, trunks) into uniform chips, enabling resource recycling. Its compact design and broad compatibility make it an ideal choice for various agricultural and landscaping operations.

The most important part of the wood chipping process, is without any doubt, an effective and secure in-feed of wood to the chipper. Tractor PTO WCAP5 utilises gravity feeding for easy maintenance, making them best in class, whether big or small, and will compete favourably at all times.

FAQs

How do I check tractor compatibility for this 5-inch PTO wood chipper?

Check the hitch, lifting capacity, and PTO connection—not just your tractor’s horsepower. The WCAP5 specifies 15–45 engine HP, Category 1 or 2 three-point mounting, and Category 1 quick-hitch compatibility. Engine horsepower and PTO horsepower are different measurements, so confirm both in your tractor’s owner’s manual. Also check implement weight, rear lift capacity, and ballast requirements. Compare Farmry PTO wood chipper options if your tractor or workload falls outside this model’s requirements.

Does the included PTO drive shaft fit every tractor without adjustment?

No. The included PTO drive shaft still needs to be checked against your tractor and hitch setup. It must telescope without bottoming out and retain adequate shaft overlap throughout the permitted hitch travel. Shortening may be required according to the owner’s manual, and adding a quick hitch can change the fit. Keep the PTO disengaged and engine off during connection or manual shaft checks. Review our tractor and PTO compatibility guide before setup.

Can this wood chipper process every branch up to 5 inches in diameter?

No. The WCAP5’s 5-inch chipping capacity applies to fresh or wet wood; its published limit for dry wood is up to 4 inches. Branch shape, knots, wood species, blade condition, and available power also affect feeding. Sort brush piles before chipping, keep rocks and other foreign material out of the hopper, and do not force oversized branches into the machine. Our green wood vs. dry wood guide explains why diameter alone does not determine suitability.

Does this PTO chipper use hydraulic feed or a gas-powered engine?

No. The WCAP5 uses your tractor’s PTO to drive the cutting disc and relies on gravity feed, not powered hydraulic rollers. The operator introduces suitable branches through the hopper; it is not an unattended feeding system. There is no separate gas engine or hydraulic feed pump, but a compatible tractor is required to operate the chipper. Never reach into the hopper while the machine is running. See our PTO vs. gas-powered wood chipper comparison for the differences between tractor attachments and standalone units.

Can I direct the wood chips into a pile or collection area?

Yes. The WCAP5 provides two chute orientations, 0° and 180°, plus an adjustable deflector to guide discharged wood chips. Position the tractor and collection area around those settings; the discharge chute does not provide continuous 360° rotation. Make adjustments only with the engine off and key removed, the PTO disengaged, and all moving parts stopped. Keep the discharge directed away from people, animals, and buildings.

What routine maintenance do the blades and PTO system need?

Inspect the blades, fasteners, PTO guards, and lubrication points according to the owner’s manual. Dull or damaged blades can reduce chipping performance. Blade sharpening or replacement must preserve matched dimensions, rotor balance, and specified clearance. Check the application details for WCAP5 replacement blades before ordering. Before servicing, stop the engine, remove the key, wait for all moving parts to stop, and disconnect the PTO shaft.
